Police in Connecticut received a complaint January 9th of a woman performing medical procedures at her residence. After search and seizure, they arrested the woman on a warrant. The alleged procedures were reportedly cosmetic in nature, including lipolysis and repairs for patients who received surgeries overseas. Eyewitness News saw details of the warrant, which reported that her patients were awake during surgery, she used blood drawn from herself and her husband on these patients, and saw up to three patients a day, while knowing that what she was doing was illegal without a license. The woman is charged with reckless endangerment in the first degree and practicing medicine without a license, with a cash bond set at $75,000.
This serves as a reminder that cosmetic procedures may attract bad actors seeking a profit, and the entrance of unlicensed individuals puts the public at risk. AmSpa founder and CEO, Alex Thiersch, JD, recommended patients look for certain things before they engage in any cosmetic procedure.
“What’s their licensure? Are they an MD, Nurse Practitioner or are they even an RN? What’s their training or type of supervision,” he said.
