Economic Uncertainty Is Showing Up in Cosmetic Care

There’s a lot of uncertainty in the economy for a range of things, including plastic surgery.

At his Scottsdale office, Dr. Oren Tessler chats with his patient as the procedure begins. “Our first case was maybe four months ago,” said Dr. Oren Tessler.

Dr. Tessler is using a filler called alloClae to help his patient achieve the look she wants. The procedure, which also includes harvesting some fat, is done in the office while the patient is awake.

“Historically, someone like this would not be a great candidate for using her own body to change her shape because she doesn’t have a lot,” said Dr. Tessler. “But now we can maximize what we harvest, and we have alloClae, which allows us to supplement what she has.”

The patient, Kerri Mitchell, is a busy mom of three who’s been thinking about a breast augmentation for a while. “I finally worked up the courage to really look into it,” she said.

Of course, cost was a factor in her decision. “In the economy, the uncertainty of where the prices will go, it’s almost like we know they’re going to go up. Almost everything does,” Mitchell said, affirming that the uncertainty prompted her to schedule her procedure sooner rather than later.
