The FDA announced the end of a nationwide shortage of sodium chloride 0.9% injection products, a form of intravenous (IV) saline.

The agency credits the result to close collaboration with the Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response, and industry partners, who worked swiftly and strategically to expand manufacturing capacity and restore stability to the supply chain.

The shortage of sodium chloride 0.9% injection products has resolved, so "Sodium Chloride 0.9% Injection" and "Sodium Chloride 0.9% Irrigation" now have the status "Resolved" and are listed as "Available" on the FDA Drug Shortages List. The FDA recommends that hospitals, health systems and clinics use the FDA-approved drug when available.

The FDA is working closely with manufacturers and will continue to monitor the supply of other IV fluids still in short supply to help ensure patients have access to the medicines they need.
