Conditions that can be treated with skin rejuvenation and resurfacing include static wrinkles, dynamic wrinkles, pigmentation, scars, vascular conditions, and loss of skin tone.
Skin rejuvenation is an option for you if you are physically healthy, don’t smoke, and have a positive outlook, as well as specific, but realistic, goals in mind for the improvement of your appearance.1

The results of skin resurfacing and rejuvenation are variable depending on the technology or treatment prescribed for you; however, results of a laser resurfacing treatments will likely generate permanent improvement in your skin. Following your treatment, your skin will continue to age naturally, and you may develop similar conditions to those that have been treated or other skin conditions.
Skin rejuvenation and resurfacing can run the gamut from light epidermal peeling and microdermabrasion to in-depth exfoliation treatments, chemical peels, laser treatments, and dermabrasion. Most skin rejuvenation and resurfacing treatments are considered medical treatments, depending on the depth of the treatment, although lighter and more superficial treatments are considered basic skin treatments.
More in-depth skin rejuvenation and resurfacing procedures (i.e. affecting the living tissue beneath the epidermis) are considered by states boards, and by AmSpa, as medical treatments that should only be performed by medical professionals under the supervision of a physician. For these treatments, prior to your initial treatment the medical spa should conduct an in-person exam by either a doctor, a nurse practitioner or a physician assistant. Once the in-person exam is complete, most states allow anyone with proper training, experience and supervision by a medical professional to perform light epidermal peeling, microdermabrasion and laser treatments. Please check with your local medical board, nursing board or health care attorney for more information.
