Building a network in medical aesthetics not only makes good business sense but also aids your clinical team’s safe practice and provides personal and professional support when you need it most. Create new bonds and strengthen your connections in the med spa community at Medical Spa Show, from April 10 – 13, 2025 at the Wynn Las Vegas.
AmSpa Members are truly the most supportive community in medical aesthetics—see for yourself at this year’s Members Reception on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at Medical Spa Show 2025.
Building your network has real, tangible value as a clinician and as a business owner. Think of the members you meet as an extension of your med spa team—a community of medical spa professionals who are invested in your growth, who want to share their knowledge and toast to your success.
With the rapid shift of products, technology and services in the aesthetic field, it can be challenging to determine which ones are right for your med spa. Practice managers have their hands full with everyday operations, which makes it critical to have a space for quick, reliable responses from people who are willing to follow up and go deeper. You might ask:
When you make connections with like-minded medical spa owners and practice managers, you open up the opportunity to exchange advice based on your shared experiences. Ask them your business questions and get real answers from people at your stage of practice and beyond, from med spas in the next town over or six states away. Eventually you will gain the knowledge to pay it forward and offer guidance to another aesthetic novice looking to learn.
Why is it important to build a support team outside of your med spa?
“It’s crucial to build your support team in our industry. Whether you are needing another perspective, dealing with an urgent matter, patient problem solving, needing a friend, have a business question, or need connections in the industry, networking at The Medical Spa Show will connect you with the most amazing individuals out there. The support team I’ve made over the last 4 years have helped me through trying times, got me my current job, helped with my patients, and continue to teach me new advances in the ever-evolving industry. I’ve also been called to offer support to those who have needed help and didn’t have a team close by. You are as strong as the team around you! AmSpa provides so many opportunities to broaden your support team with the best of best!” Ally Rucker, ACNP, SkinSpirit - Salt Lake City
Building a network is essential for success as an aesthetic clinician. The fast-evolving nature of the field means you need a community of peers to help you stay current with trends, techniques, and best practices. Networking offers the opportunity to exchange valuable advice, learn from others' experiences, and gain insights into what works—and what doesn’t.
By connecting with other professionals, you can ask questions about techniques, explore new products, and discover helpful resources that make transitioning into medical aesthetics smoother. Whether you’re attending training events, continuing education courses, or simply reaching out to people you admire on social media, building a network of like-minded clinicians will help you grow in your practice while staying focused on safety and responsibility.
Learn from the experience of others.
“The hope is that when I tell these people ‘This is what how this happened, and this is how I walked them through it,’ that that clinician won't make that mistake. And then I always tell them, ‘You're gonna have your own mistakes. Please call and educate me because I don't wanna. Let's just make different mistakes.’ If we're all more open sharing the negative mistakes that we've made, then it's gonna make the industry safer, because we'll have the context of how to avoid those things.” Taylor Siemens, NP-C, on why she shares both good and bad outcomes when teaching laser safety, in an episode of Medical Spa Insider
Having a reliable support network when you need it is priceless for your peace of mind. That’s one of many reasons why aesthetic practitioners connect with nearby providers who might have been considered competition in any other industry.
Some providers connect over hyaluronidase, the enzyme that is used to break down hyaluronic acid filler when it has been misplaced or needs to be dissolved. The process of dissolving is typically a watch-and-wait event, when the practitioner will inject hyaluronidase every 15 minutes until they achieve the desired result. Other times, injectors choose to “flood” the target area with the enzyme and hope to see a dramatic change after one attempt. Regardless of the strategy, there is some variability in the amount of enzyme the practitioner may need.
To ensure that the practitioners at any of these practices has the amount of enzyme they need when they need it, each med spa has agreed to carry a set number of vials in their inventory. They know that they can call for more from one of the other med spas’ supplies in case of emergency. Ultimately, by teaming up with their neighboring practices, these savvy practice managers have eliminated some of the stress and uncertainty that comes up in these situations.
What advice do you have for a new or solo aesthetic practitioner who wants to build their professional network?
“My advice for a new or solo aesthetic practitioner who wants to build their professional network is to be open to others in all aspects of their journey. Be vulnerable in sharing your mishaps and be generous in sharing what has worked. Listen without judgement and genuinely care about others.” Lily Nizam, PA-C, Alabama Plastic Surgery
As you learned in injector training, the most common treatments in medical aesthetics are associated with some of the most serious adverse events. Injecting dermal filler recklessly close to the optic nerve could potentially cause vision loss, if product restricts blood flow in that sensitive region. When it comes to these and other adverse events, the proper training, licensure and supervision are all essential to safely and effectively managing complications—and so are your connections with the relevant specialists.
Reach out and develop relationships with specialists in your area (such as an ophthalmologist) who can provide guidance or even step in to help in complex cases. Include their contact information in your emergency kit. With these skilled practitioners at the ready, your medical director and the rest of your team will feel assured of their safeguards and their ability to confidently treat your patients with the highest standard of care.
Stay tuned for the story of how building a network of skilled clinicians has personally helped national aesthetic trainer Bobbi Bullock, NP-C, in an upcoming episode of Medical Spa Insider.
As a small business owner, what steps did you take to meet other people who are in your position?
“As a small business owner, I’ve found that being actively involved in the AmSpa community has been incredibly beneficial for networking and support. Attending events like the Medical Spa Show has allowed me to connect with other professionals who share similar goals and challenges. These gatherings are more than just educational; they create a sense of belonging and collaboration among members.
“I also prioritize engaging with the AmSpa online resources in any way I can. This not only helps me stay informed about industry trends but also opens up opportunities to connect with fellow members. Sharing experiences and learning from one another has fostered valuable relationships that I cherish.
“Ultimately, the AmSpa community has provided a platform where we can support each other, share best practices, and grow together. I believe that fostering these connections is essential for success in our industry.” Fay Jouni, AGPCNP-BC, Fayced Aesthetics NYC
Small business ownership can feel isolating. Know that, as an AmSpa Member, you are not alone in your med spa journey. When you network with medical spa professionals from across the country at Medical Spa Show, you will quickly find the spirit of camaraderie that this profession is known for. People who are in your position, doing what you do, these future collaborators are waiting to be a part of your story.
Meet and be inspired by people who share the same challenges, opportunities and experiences. The AmSpa community has every stage of practice represented, from med spas that are yet to open to solo practitioners who started in aesthetics back when they were primarily injecting bovine collagen.
Transitioning from the hospital setting to medical aesthetics? Clinicians from more and more specialties are taking interest in medical spas, so you will find yourself in good company. Is private equity knocking at your door? Ask around, this is not an uncommon occurrence these days. Opening your own medical spa and seeking business resources? This field is full of professionals who started in health care and became entrepreneurs; you can be confident that the AmSpa community is full of people who have overcome the obstacles you are facing and can help you get on the right path.
Med spa owners, especially in single-location practices, often report that they are never “off.” Similarly, practitioners make themselves continually available to patients and receive messages at all hours, sometimes even getting stopped at the supermarket. When it becomes difficult to set boundaries in your day-to-day life, the best way of escape is to dedicate time to dimming—or even turning off!—your business mode.
You deserve time to unwind. Give yourself and your team a break from the everyday grind with the many social opportunities at Medical Spa Show. Refresh your energy when you attend all of the social events:

How would you describe the value of stepping away from your aesthetic practice to learn, connect and unwind with peers?
“For several reasons, stepping away from my aesthetic practice to learn, connect, and unwind with peers is incredibly valuable. It allows for personal growth and creative rejuvenation. Engaging with others in the field exposes me to new ideas, techniques, and perspectives that enrich my work. This exchange reignites my passion and helps me see my practice from a fresh viewpoint.
“Additionally, taking time to unwind with peers fosters a sense of community and support. The shared experiences and challenges of others can remind you that you’re not alone. The community within AmSpa helps cultivate a space to reflect, learn, and grow in a way that ultimately elevates my aesthetic career journey.” Cameron Moskos, PA-C, Cameo Facial Aesthetics
