Alert: Mandatory use of California CURES system starts October 2, 2018
Posted By American Med Spa Association, Thursday, September 27, 2018
Starting October 2, 2018 all California licensed health care practitioners who are authorized to prescribe or furnish Schedule II-IV medications must consult the Controlled Substance Utilization Review and Evaluation System (CURES) prior to prescribing a controlled substance to a patient.
These Patient Activity Reports (PAR) must be rechecked every 4 months as long as the prescription is part of the patient’s treatment. The Medical board recommends that the physician documents their queries with CURES by making a note or placing the PAR in the patients file. After Oct 2 failure to comply with this law can result in discipline against your license.
The California Attorney General has a helpful information page here that gives additional guidance on complying with this law.
If you have questions on how this affects your practice please contact us at 312-981-0993 and we'll put you in contact with an attorney at our partner law firm ByrdAdatto. Reminder: AmSpa members receive an annual complimentary 20 minute compliance consultation call with a ByrdAdatto attorney.
