Medical spas often lack proper doctor oversight

Once a world of facials and massage, spas are tacking the word "medical" to their name and pitching invasive services, often without proper doctor oversight.
The latest person snared in this booming industry is a Norfolk doctor who received a state reprimand and a $5,000 fine for letting an unlicensed person use his prescription information to obtain medication for erectile dysfunction at a local medical spa.
The Virginia Board of Medicine issued the sanction in court documents filed this month against Dr. Bruce Kleiman, an internal medicine physician who agreed to be a medical director of Eastern Virginia Medical Spa in Chesapeake in 2013.
