North Carolina Bill Draft Poised to Eliminate Licensing Requirements for Laser Hair Removal
Posted By American Med Spa Association, Wednesday, April 20, 2016
The Joint Legislative Administrative Procedure Oversight Committee in North Carolina has filed a bill draft that, if introduced as a bill, would repeal numerous occupational licensing boards, including the Board of Electrolysis Examiners. The draft would also eliminate the licensing requirements for electrologists and laser hair practitioners.
The Joint Committee is co-chaired by Representative Jonathan C. Jordan (R) and Senator Fletcher L. Hartsell, Jr. (R).
Committee member Senator Andy Wells (R), said that too much licensing hurts the economy and argued that consumers already do a good job of weeding out bad professionals through online reviews and other means. He said, “I’m not sure a piece of paper from the state is that meaningful.” He continued, “Especially when … we’re in the age of online reviews. I’d rather know what 5,000 of my peers know about your service.”
The Joint Committee held a hearing where Senator Andy Wells (R) spoke on the draft. Meeting minutes for that meeting are not yet available.
